Assistant Controller

Position Summary

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Assistant Controller to support the Controller in overseeing the organization's accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. This individual will play a key role in managing the month-end close process, maintaining compliance with accounting standards, supervising accounting staff, and assisting with budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Controller in managing the daily operations of the accounting department.
  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company accounting policies.
  • Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Support external audits and coordinate requests from auditors.
  • Monitor and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and professional development.
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Assist with cash flow management and treasury functions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax reporting requirements.
  • Develop and improve accounting processes and procedures to increase efficiency.
  • Participate in ERP system enhancements, implementations, or upgrades as needed.
  • Prepare management reports and provide financial insights to support business decisions.
  • Perform other accounting and finance duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA designation preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Public accounting experience is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience with month-end close, financial statement preparation, and internal controls.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
