Position: Senior Accountant (Nonprofit)

The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the organization's financial records and supporting accurate, timely financial reporting. This role oversees day-to-day accounting activities, assists with budgeting and audits, ensures compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, and partners with leadership to support the organization's financial health and mission.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Perform general ledger reconciliations and month-end/year-end close activities.
• Record journal entries and ensure the accuracy of financial transactions.
• Monitor restricted and unrestricted funds and maintain grant-related accounting records.
• Assist with budget preparation, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Prepare schedules and documentation for annual audits and tax filings.
• Reconcile bank accounts, investments, and balance sheet accounts.
• Review accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management activities for accuracy.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, grant requirements, and internal controls.
• Assist with process improvements and support finance department initiatives.
• Prepare financial reports for executive leadership, board members, and funding agencies as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit organization.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles, including fund accounting.
• Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, reconciliations, and audit preparation.
• Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
• CPA or CPA candidate required.
