Position Summary

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Oil & Gas Accountant to join their growing accounting team. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records related to oil and gas operations while ensuring compliance with industry standards and company policies. The ideal candidate will have experience in oil and gas accounting, possess strong analytical skills, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and post monthly journal entries related to oil and gas operations.
• Perform general ledger account reconciliations and investigate variances.
• Record and reconcile revenue, lease operating expenses, and production-related transactions.
• Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
• Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
• Prepare and analyze financial reports for management.
• Support internal and external audit requests by providing schedules and documentation.
• Assist with accruals, prepaid expenses, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and industry accounting standards.
• Work closely with operations, land, production, and finance teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls.
• Assist with special projects and ad hoc financial analysis as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within the oil and gas industry.
• Knowledge of upstream oil and gas accounting principles preferred.
• Experience with joint interest billing (JIB), revenue accounting, or production accounting is a plus.
• Familiarity with COPAS guidelines is preferred.
• Experience with ERP systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data analysis functions.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• CPA or CPA candidate is a plus.
