Position Summary

The Controller will lead all accounting and financial reporting functions for a growing oil and gas company. This role is responsible for overseeing general ledger, revenue accounting, joint interest billing, production accounting, and financial compliance. The ideal candidate has deep industry experience and a strong understanding of accounting practices, regulatory requirements, and operational reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, revenue, AP/AR, fixed assets, and payroll
• Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
• Supervise oil & gas-specific accounting functions including:
  • Revenue accounting
  • Joint Interest Billing and working interest billing
  • Production accounting and volume reconciliation
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and industry-specific accounting standards
• Prepare and review financial statements, internal reports, and variance analyses
• Coordinate and manage external audits, including preparation of audit schedules and supporting documentation
• Oversee regulatory reporting
• Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting policies
• Partner with operations, land, and engineering teams to ensure accurate financial data and reporting
• Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
• Support strategic initiatives, acquisitions, and system implementations as needed

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
• CPA designation strongly preferred
• 7+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3–5 years in the oil & gas industry
• Prior leadership or supervisory experience required
• Strong knowledge of oil & gas accounting, including JIB and revenue accounting
• Experience with industry accounting software
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Strong understanding of internal controls and audit processes
